Shane Kelly a.k.a. Tha Hot Shot
19-year-old Shane Kelly, aka Tha Hot Shot, is a new hip hop artist and songwriter. He was a born and raised St. Maartener, with the right attitude and confidence to break through. He isn't cocky, but confident, because he motivates himself to do positive things. He doesn't just want to be seen as another local artist or rapper; he wants people to see him differently.
"I know a lot of people say that they want to be different. I don't want to be the best; I want people to recognize me for the work I do and the positive movements I make. I want to influence people through my music. Once enough people hear me, I'm good. I already feel I'm one of the best. I'm getting there on my positive stride."
Follow Up
This is my very first project. I'm nervous and excited about my mix tape CD Swagga 101 Volume 1. I just want as many people to know who I am and what I'm about. The CD is going to be fire.
Positive Vibes
There is no obscenity in my lyrics. I want my mother to be able to understand what is in my music. It makes me proud to see her enjoy my music, so it is suitable for a mature crowd as well. My songs are positive, I sing about things that are happening on the island. I sing about things I like to do to, and especially love to sing about women, but I don't disrespect anybody. Some of my songs you hear on the radio are a bit controversial, because I like to voice my opinion. I don't go out of my way to do so. I am quiet and appear to be shy, but nothing's wrong with voicing your opinion once you do it in a respectable manner. That's one of the things my mother taught me. Once you're on a positive note, you're young and your up and coming, that's what people are looking for. Not one radio station has turned me down as yet.
Introducing Tha Hot Shot
I ain't bragging, but of course the music's got to sound good. A lot of people helped me out: H.O.T. studios, Dirty Recording Studios, SIK Radio pushed me a lot, and many more. In October I'll be on a trip to Canada to meet with an independent music label in hopes to get signed. I will be there for a week, and hopefully spread my music there as well. My mix tape release party will be sometime in November.
More Music
For my future, I want more music. I hope to be successful as a recording artist, but I don't want to be limited to that. I want to be a radio broadcaster as well. I fell in love with that when I interned at Lazer101 studios a few years ago. That's another thing I'm hoping to do on my trip to Canada: get into radio broadcasting. Those are the two things I definitely see in my future!
