Power/vinyasa Yoga with Dinah!

DSC_0787~ Sessions in Simpson Bay ~

By Sanny Ensing

Dinah's power/vinyasa yoga classes are absolutely wonderful. It was the second time that I attended one of her programs. The first time was years ago, like 10 years ago, when she used to give yoga classes on the porch of the Loterie Farm plantation home. I remember that many people raved about her classes then, and I will rave about her lessons now. She manages to make yoga relaxing and active at the same time. I felt like every muscle in my body had been stretched and worked at; I would work up a good sweat, but at the same time would leave the class relaxed and refreshed.

Dinah is a good instructor – she speaks clearly and it is easy to follow the postures – she had to be if you take into consideration that this was my first time doing yoga with her and I was able to follow most of the postures. The great benefit to me, and the rest of the class, is that she walks around and adjusts you, so you get into the right position or deeper into the position; whatever it is you need, she is there to help you. It is possible with her classes to adjust your postures, so if you have a problem with an arm or a leg, a knee or a neck, she will give you slight alterations to the movements and you can still keep up with everyone else without hurting yourself.

The class I went to was a mix of people: some were yoga pros, others had done it for quite a while, some were visitors and had found out about her classes online, and a couple of us were novices; but everyone seemed to enjoy the program at his or her own level. Various postures can be held at a beginner level, an intermediate level and an advanced level, so everyone in the class can do the same movement albeit in different intensities.

At the end of the class, in the cooling down and relaxation part of her program, Dinah came by and gave a couple of us a massage on the neck and shoulders with some pungent tiger balm; it felt heavenly. She later explained that she is also a massage therapist who does a great variation of massages such as Swedish, remedial, shiatsu, reflexology, aromatherapy and reiki. This massage master is also planning to give a massage course for those interested in learning this healing art. Call or email her for more information.

Dinah has more than 20 years of experience with yoga and massage, and applies her beliefs in a personal approach to the healing arts through intent, perception and knowledge. Each session is individually tuned to what you need most.
