PHILIPSBURG--Lekwane Constance threw 55 pitches. It was all he needed as he hurled his team, Sagicor, past Elle si Belle in the St. Maarten Little League youth baseball competition yesterday.
Constance threw a no-hit shut out as Sagicor won 13-0 in a game shortened to four innings due to the 10 run mercy rule. "The team was really hitting the ball," said Sagicor coach Myrna van Heyningen.
Constance and Jordy Jano led the team offence. Both went two for three. One of Jano's hits was a triple.
The game marked the end of the regular season. The top four teams advance to the playoffs that begin Saturday.
There are seven teams in the 12 and under division which played two rounds. Photo Gumbs is in first place at 12-0. Elle-si-Belle, Windward Islands Bank and Abu Ghazi Shwarma all finished at 6-6. Scotiabank is fifth place at 5-7, Sagicor is 4-8 and Fatum is 3-9.
