Martel’s 39 points lift No Limits over Rug Rats

page44aPHILIPSBURG—Hartley Martel scored 39 points as he led Margarita Grocers No Limits to victory in the Cadet Division of the Soualiga Youth Basketball Association competition at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium yesterday. No Limits tipped off and defeated Over the Bank Rug Rats 77-48.

No Limits of St. Peters started out with a 25-13 first quarter lead and cruised to victory. They led 35-20 at the half and 59-36 at the end of three. Ricardo Generette had 19 points for the Rats.

The Soualiga Youth Basketball Association competition features three divisions of play, including Minis 12 years and under, Cadets 13 to 15 years and Juniors 19 years and under.

The scheduled Junior Division match up between Cross Over Boys and Belvedere Bulls was cancelled with both teams forfeiting.

"Neither team has paid their registration and insurance fees," said Miguel Richardson. "We gave the teams time, and then a warning. Now any team that has not completed the registration process will not play."

There will be no games today as the auditorium is not available. Action continues Thursday at 4:30pm in the Cadet Division as Zagersgut Ballers meet MNO Clippers and in the Junior Division Celtics of Cay Hill go up against Grand Case Scorpions.

In other basketball news, there will be an information session for athletes wishing to try out for the St. Maarten Kingdom Games Team at the Sports Auditorium on Friday from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

To try out for the team that will represent St. Maarten, athletes must be between 15 to 17 years old and have Dutch Rights. Please, bring a copy of your passport to the meeting.
