Dear Queenie,
My best friend since schooldays was a boy who lived near us. Even when we went away to different schools and then got jobs in different places we stayed in touch by e-mail. But the last couple of years I have hardly heard from him, even when he came home to visit.
Now I have received an invitation to his wedding. I was so happy for him and I wrote to tell him so, but he hasn't answered me even though I e-mailed several times. Instead I got a reply from his brother!
I met his fiancée when he got engaged and I'm planning to go to the wedding, but I'm really hurt by the way he is ignoring me.
Queenie, is it too much to expect him to answer me himself?—Miss my friend
Dear Miss my friend,
It looks like your friendship has suffered the ravages of time and distance, not to mention that your friend's fiancée may not have been too thrilled about the closeness of your friendship and may have demanded that he choose between the two of you.
Attend the wedding if you like, but be prepared to find that your childhood friendship is over and to move on.
