Dear Editor,
We've seen and heard the usual politicians' promises. Some are proposing very big and fancy projects to the people.
One said he'll build a bridge UP and over Simpson Bay Lagoon. Another one promised to build an InterNAtional drag-racing track in Great Salt Pond.
Since we are in the time of mostly empty promises, here are a few ideas for the candidates that haven't had any good fancy ideas as yet:
We can pave the Simpson Bay Lagoon with nice red and yellow pavers. Of course it is going to make the bridge obsolete. But it is going to create lots of jobs - more than 300. The jobs are going to last a very long-time to say the least. There will be so much work that even St. Maarteners will get jobs. But they will have to be paid a little more than the illegals.
Another idea is to paint the skies Blue. There also it will help the economy tremendously. We can advertise the island as the only one with constant blue skies. We will need the cooperation of the French side, but I'm sure just as they didn't mind the billboards, they will let us do the painting as long as it is done by a French company.
Last idea, but not the least build a high barrier that will protect us from hurricanes and also from illegal immigration.
I know these ideas may seem a little far-fetched but what the heck, we are in the time of political campaign promises.
By the way, I sent you this mail from my son's laptop, because my apartment was burglarized today (Tuesday) and my laptop was stolen. Anyone has a fancy idea about crime?
