The haves and the have-nots

Dear Editor,

As election time is just around the corner again, politicians, or rather some political parties, are already beginning to gear up, as they come out of their closets with their political promises, hopes, dreams, visions and persuasions. Yes, it's nothing new, for we have heard it all before.

Before attending their gatherings or meetings, you already know what they are going to say, how they are going to express themselves and which opposition party or parties, as well as which other politician or politicians, they are going to accuse. It's like trying to pin the tail on the donkey. It's all a political game and self interest. They are just trying to gain or regain their position; nothing more nothing less. Political power is sweet and money is even sweeter.

But who are suffering in the end are the people who have put their confidence in them, only later on to realize that "again" they have been taken for a ride, because their political candidate has abandon the ship, taking along their votes with them, only to board another elsewhere.

In this year's election we will have a new party on the list. A green party has appeared as a new kid on the block. But throughout all the years, we have seen too many of them just come and go. After they could not achieve their goal or purpose, or could not obtain or have what they wanted, they simply submerged, only to later on emerge in "another" political party, still seeking what they have not obtained with their previous party.

I have observed such political individuals in this new green party, whom I consider as the have-nots. It's about time people are stopped being deceived. We are heading for the 10/10/10 date. And this island will need a serious government to lead it through the hard times ahead, because we are already facing a difficult economic time.

Many people are worried about the present situation on this island, especially when it comes to St. Maarten being prepared for its Separate Status. The politicians are saying, "Yes, we will be ready. It's ok." But remember they are just politicians, and a politician would say anything for his or her vote, especially if they are "have-nots" who want to "have."

A deceived voter
