PHILIPSBURG--United Task Force Against Crime (UTFAC) again urged the community on Friday to join it for a unity walk against crime tonight. Persons are being requested to wear white T-shirts and walk with candles.
UTFAC will be walking from John Larmonie Centre on the Pondfill to the Government Administration Building from 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome, said Public Relations Officer Jadira Veen on Friday. "It's a solemn affair," she said.
Walkers will leave the centre, walk along Longwall Road and Front Street to the government building. Speakers will then honour the men and women who have died in violent crime recently, along with presentations from the faith-based community, young persons and possibly from government officials.
"We will have a tribute and a moment of silence," Veen said.
She requested that community and sports groups show up in team uniforms to the event.
Belvedere residents can ride to the march together in a bus that leaves from the Seventh Day Adventist church at 6:30pm. The Voluntary Corps of St. Maarten VKS drum band will be among the groups participating.
