Organizations call for stand against crime
PHILIPSBURG--On September 8 Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles Emily de Jongh Elhage informed Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende the Antillean Government will not cooperate with any motion on admittance and expulsion regulation for Antillean youngsters.
VVD faction submitted a motion asking the next Dutch cabinet to include an admittance and expulsion regulation for Antillean youngsters in the future Kingdom Law that regulates movement of persons in the Kingdom.
Elhage said the Antillean Government will also not entertain or support any other steps taken with regards to the motion and urged Balkende not to execute such a motion.
VVD wants Antillean youngsters to comply with certain conditions before they can enter the Netherlands. Admitted would be youngsters who came to the Netherlands to study and those with a prospective job. Youngsters, who quit school, don't find a job or end up in crime, would be sent back to their island.
In related news, Antillean and Aruban Community organisations in Holland recently stated while they understand the frustration with Antillean criminal elements in Holland and are not defending them, they do not support expelling Dutch citizens, but rather punishing them under the scope of the law.
The organisations called on all Antilleans and Arubans to take a stand against crime and not tolerate the actions of youngsters who taint everyone from the islands. Fathers and mothers had been asked not to be neglectful of their children in Holland.
A call to end violence with deadly weapons was also made and youngsters were asked to examine why their first reaction to conflict was to draw a weapon or resort to violence.
The organisations called for various initiatives to change to mindset of troubled youngsters, including a campaign against violence and efforts to highlight the positive contributions of Antillean and Aruban youngsters. It is "high time", something is done, they said.
A meeting will be held today to come up with concrete solutions and initiatives.
